Founded in 1977, the National Wellness Institute, Inc. (NWI) was formed to realize the mission of providing health promotion and wellness professionals unparalleled resources and services that fuel professional and personal growth.
This mission continues to drive the National Wellness Institute and forms the basis for the annual National Wellness Conference, the most highly acclaimed professional conference in health and wellness.
The National Wellness Institute's Certified Wellness Practitioner (CWP) designation symbolizes an individual's strong academic preparation, professional competency in wellness programming, and commitment to continuing education, scholarship and professional development. The NWI Council on Wellness Continuing Education periodically reviews national standards to ensure the CWP designation reflects high-quality health promotion and wellness preparation.
Please note:CWPs are selected through an application process; this is not a training program. A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required to qualify for CWP designation.
What does the "CWP" designation mean?
The CWP designation is one indication of professional competency and commitment to continued scholarship and professional development. A CWP is qualified—through graduation from an NWI Accredited Academic Program or through documented, supervised experience—to utilize effective health promotion models to assess needs and subsequently design, implement, and evaluate interventions for individuals and populations; apply current theories and models to motivate others to engage in health promotion and prevention activities; and create health-enhancing environments through the initiation of organizational and cultural change.
