This course will consist of didactic sessions on the principles of evidence, statistical tools for the analysis of evidence, and categorization of studies. It will be accompanied by small group activities on critically assessing studies of treatment. Participants seeking accreditation will be required to complete a two-part examination. A short test will be administered at the end of the course, and participants will be asked to complete and submit within one week a take-home test covering principles, the calculation of statistics, and the critical appraisal of studies of treatment.
Participants who successfully demonstrate competence on the examination will obtain The Spine Intervention Society EBM-accreditation in the appraisal of evidence in studies of treatment. This accreditation is a prerequisite for enrollment in The Spine Intervention Society Accreditation Course in Evidence-Based Medicine: Part II. Assessing Studies of Diagnostic Tests and Strategies.
