Seismic protection is a necessity for many of the buildings constructed today. Starting with how to determine when seismic protection is necessary, this course will convey proper seismic protection for fire sprinkler systems and other water-based fire protection systems. Lessons will cover both needed flexibility and rigidity thought the system(s). Calculating the loads applicable to bracing will no longer be a mystery. Following the course, participants will know their systems are protected for the next earthquake.
Duration: 7 weeks
FEE: Members or AHJs: $450 Non-Members: $650
Prerequisites: Students must have basic knowledge and familiarity of sprinkler systems installed in accordance with NFPA 13. This includes system components, common materials, and basic spacing rules.
Number of Modules: 8
Learning Outcomes:At the conclusion of this seminar, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify when earthquake protection is needed
2. Calculate the applicable seismic force
3. Describe locations in a system that need flexibility
4. Discuss where sway braces are needed
5. Calculate the appropriate loads for a sway brace
6. Identify and describe components of sway braces
7. Describe system restraints
8. Apply seismic protection to a water-based fire protection system
